Following a staff training session, we need to make you aware of a potential issue with your water supply. In most of the blocks, your water is supplied via a cold water tank, which is maintained, sterilised and tested on a regular basis. The water is tested for several things, the main one being Legionella. Legionella is most commonly found in natural water sources, but can also be found in purpose-built water systems. Legionella thrives in water temperatures between 20 and 50 degrees, and in places where there is limescale or rust. The water temperature in the pipes cannot be controlled and could become warm, especially in the summer months, so it is important to flush your taps when they have not been used for some time.
The advice we have been asked to pass on to all home owners is that if your property is vacant for a week or more, you should run all water sources within your property for 2 minutes before using them on your return. This includes taps, showers and baths and it is to clear any water that has been sitting within the pipes and could have become contaminated.
If you are a Landlord, it is your responsibility to pass this information on to your tenants.
